Wakefield Girls’ High School Upper School Choir
Musical Director: Mrs Rachel White
Accompanist: Mrs Lindsay Browning
Wakefield Girls’ High School Junior School was established in 1881 and is part of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation which educates boys and girls in West and South Yorkshire.
The Upper School Choir is a group of keen singers all aged between 9 and 11 years old. They all audition for a place in the school and rehearse twice a week. As well as being part of the extremely busy life of the school they perform regularly in various music festivals.
Last year they came back triumphant from the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival and the highly competitive Harrogate Music Festival. They are frequently in demand to perform alongside other choirs including the Rodillian Singers, Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir, The Skelmanthorpe Male Voice Choir and the Clothworkers Consort, performing in some magical venues, including Wakefield Cathedral, Unity Hall, the Catholic Chaplaincy of Leeds University and our very own Jubilee Hall.
They have also been fortunate enough to perform alongside the singer Jonathan Ansell, former G4 singer, and have taken part in charity concerts, most recently helping to raise money in aid of Muscular Dystrophy and Dogs for the Disabled.
In 2015 the Choir undertook a concert tour to Paris and are looking forward to their forthcoming tour in 2017.
